Birthday Ideas that aren't to straightforward...?

Whats a good idea for a birthday present for a guy i've grown to like over the past 2 months. We hang out often, he's very into music and has a studio - so i'm clueless on whats cheap that he woudln't have, loves the outdoors, enjoys going to the beach, playing sports, has a favorite baseball team - so I was thinking a ticket to a game, but his teams in Wisc.... We often do things that cost little or no money - I was thinking maybe a nice picnic in a state park and tubing down the natural springs. I don't want to see to straightforward or obvious that I have feelings for him (since he might not know yet - im working on that - since he's a great friend I don't want to lose over how I feel...), but would love to do something fun, sponanious or maybe even a nice gift to go along with all that. Any ideas?? Guys opinions would work to - let me know something sweet a girl did to show she liked you...
