Why doesn't salt water make chlorine gas?
Ok so you add nacl to water. The water breaks the bonds creating ions of na+ and cl-. Chlorine is diatomic so why doesnt the Cl- ions bond together and create Cl2. And then since it would be a gas why wouldnt it rise right out of the water.
